NIGEL HAYES – TALES FROM THE SHED PART 3 EP – Released: October 2011 – IA1.6
Just over one year since Nigel Hayes penned the first two volumes of ‘Tales From The Shed’, he now releases parts 3 and 4 on London’s Intelligent Audio. Nigel Hayes original material is extremely rare these days – yet he remains one of the most respected players in house and techno, and especially nu jazz and lounge. In IA he has found the perfect partner label to reflect his ethos.
As we always do here at Intelligent Audio, the release is split into two releases, one focused on House/Techno and the other allowing the artist to explore their full creativity with a more eclectic selection. IA1.6 sees Nigel providing 4 tracks in the Deep/Tech House and Techno genres while IA2.6 is a blend of Afro-Beat, Funk and Broken Beat, with all tracks underpinned by live instrumentation.
After taking some time out following his albums ‘….but is it art?’ and ‘it’s your move’ on Sunshine Recordings, Nigel Hayes returned to production in 2009 including going head to head with Tom Middleton on two monster remixes of Francois DuBois’ ‘Blood’ for Urban Torque – a release which became one of the biggest dancefloor rockers of 2006. He has also remixed Motivators, Funkanala and Jobu for the much respected Here and Now Recordings as well as Ibile & Ade Sose for Bitches Brew, taking Afro-Beat in a new direction.
Since the early projects as Chaser (his partnership with Lars Sandberg aka Funk D’Void/Francois DuBois) for Soma Recordings, Nigel has always tried to blend live instrumentation with electronica and with this release he indulges his passion for both. In 2010 Nigel and Lars Sandberg (aka Funk D’Void/Francois DuBois) started studio production work together again as Chaser (they were previously signed to Soma from 1995-2005), and released the massive ‘Bite the Bullet / Odysseys Return’ EP on Urban Torque, which received a fantastic response across the board from DJs such as Darren Emerson, Dubfire and Ian Pooley.
On this release you can hear 4 quality, deep tech house tracks. Nothing more, nothing less – they are ALL rockers, they will all make you happy if you like that vibe… we got a TON of great feedback from this (as we do from all of Nigel’s releases) – so please scroll down to read it, and spread the word if you like it and support our label and artists!
